Despite a battle with injuries, Megan Buckland (Bishop McGuinness/Winston Salem, NC) is a player that we continue to feel can make a difference at the next level.

There’s a term that we use around the office called the “genetic lottery” that we use to describe the top players at any level of play (DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, WNBA). The term is not just a physical description as certain players are blessed with a mental understanding that far exceeds the ability of some of their classmates to grasp certain on floor concepts. The best players usually have a combination of physical gifts (quickness, strength, mechanics) and the mental understanding (IQ, comprehension) to put it all together.

Class of 2011 forward Durriyyah Drummond (Marietta, GA/Wheeler HS) is our latest Evaluation Program member.

Evaluation

As a combo skill forward, Drummond spends most of her time on the perimeter and is at her best offensively in the midrange area. She is a solid offensive threat who can score it with jumpers off the catch, dribble or at the rim. Her biggest area for improvement is raising her release point on her jumpshot which will allow her to raise her percentages out past 18 feet.

Meredith Vinson is a sharpshooting Class of 2013 guard to keep an eye on.

Evaluation

Vinson is a talented young guard who can play on or off the ball - she’s a sharp shooter who already possesses really good form at the top of her shot. She has an extended followthrough with both hands which is rare for a guard this early.

Evaluation

A cat quick point guard, Massengill brings a lot of energy and a slick handle to the position. Her handle and mobility allows her to get into gaps in the lane off the dribble. She likes to pass the ball and would gladly give up a basket for a teammate to finish the play.

Top Ten 2011 prospect Alexia Standish appears to figure into the discussion of where top 2012 guards Moriah Jefferson and Alexis Jones will go to school.

1) Looking at the point guards in Texas, how does it all play out? Baylor will have Sims, Texas will have Peoples, and Texas A&M will have Standish. With Moriah Jefferson and Alexis Jones being potential program changers how will that play out?
