JumpOffPlus.com College Prospect Evaluation: Aryanna Hutcherson
Name: Aryanna Hutcherson
The diminutive point guard is a part of a new breed of female basketball player who doesn’t remember when the WNBA wasn’t on television let alone that at one point there was no professional league for female ballers. Like many of her classmates, Hutcherson - who is nicknamed “Dinero” - lists past WNBA Number One overall draft picks Maya Moore (2011 - Minnesota Lynx) and Candace Parker (2008 - Los Angeles Sparks) amongst her favorite players spending downtime not in the gym watching their games on television. The easiest part of her evaluation was seeing how much she enjoys working out, really taking in the instruction that we gave during her time in “The Factory.”
She has a nice skill set early in her career with the ball skill to pass and dribble with either hand even using counter direction moves to shoot pull-up jumpers already. Her stature limits her natural range on her jump shot without needing a slight push to get the ball to the basket. That should disappear with physical growth over the next couple of years. Her frame, though slight, is muscular and she moves well both north to south and laterally. Blessed with a nice understanding of the game early, the right-handed floor general should be a real vocal leader on both ends as she matures.
