In what served as the season opener for both teams, Milton (Alpharetta, Georgia) got the ball rolling early thanks to five quick points from 5-foot-9 junior off guard Nikki Dixon. Dixon struggled with foul trouble throughout the game but managed to drop 21 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Norcross (Georgia) was led early and often by the play of 5-6 senior point guard Briana Jordan. Jordan - a Tennessee Tech signee - found a way to keep her team in the game scoring a barrage of points in the second quarter on three pointers and pull-up jumpers alike. She finished with 26 points, 18 of which came in the first half.
Milton countered with 5-11 senior wing Kristina-Puthoff King who matched Jordan basket for basket in the second quarter while Dixon sat in foul trouble. King - a Richmond signee - finished with 17 points on pull-up jumpers from all over the floor. Norcross two heralded freshman, Kaela Davis and Diamond DeShields, didn't have a chance to get rolling as Davis suffered from foul trouble and DeShields suffered a mild concussion early in the first quarter and never returned. Davis did hit two key free throws that gave Norcross the lead for good with just under a minute remaining. With Norcross up three in the closing, she stole a Milton inbounds pass and finished with a layup to give the Blue Devils the 52-47 victory.
Gene Hill (Georgia Tech), Chester Nichols (Central Florida) and Janine Hoffman-Noel (Jacksonville State) were all in attendance for the game.
